Delta Regional Authority Invests $1.2 Million in Guthrie to Support 125 New Jobs in Automotive IndusJuly 25, 2018
GUTHRIE, KY. – The Delta Regional Authority (DRA) and Gov. Matt Bevin (R-KY) today announced a nearly $1.2 million investment to improve infrastructure at a planned automotive sheet manufacturing facility located just outside of Guthrie. The 153-acre manufacturing plant is a $300 million economic development project that will create 125 new jobs in Todd County.
“Part of DRA’s core mission is to invest in infrastructure improvements that help create jobs and facilitate economic development across the Delta region,” said Chris Caldwell, federal co-chairman of DRA. “This investment in Todd County is part of a multi-million dollar project that will support job growth across southwestern Kentucky and bolster manufacturing to ensure we remain competitive in the global economy.”
DRA’s investment through the Community Infrastructure Fund will support construction of sewer and electrical infrastructure for the facility, which will produce light-weight aluminum for the auto industry. The facility, projected to open in 2020, will produce alloys, treatments and finishes that will allow automakers to create more fuel efficient cars and trucks.
“I’m proud to have secured the critical resources in the government funding bill for fiscal year 2018 to support the Delta Regional Authority’s efforts to encourage economic growth and new jobs in Todd County,” said U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-KY. “This critical funding will also support economic development projects in other Western Kentucky counties and the Mississippi Delta Region. Today’s news showcases the important partnership between Congress and the DRA and our opportunity to deliver local economic and infrastructure developments.”
“It was a great day earlier this year when I attended the historic Novelis groundbreaking, a $300 million investment for Guthrie and the entire region that will create 125 new jobs,” said U.S. Rep. James Comer, R-01. “Today, the Delta Regional Authority’s $1.2 million investment in Todd County continues to bring good news in helping to improve infrastructure, which is crucial to the success of Novelis. With these investments, I look forward to the continued economic growth of the area and further achievements for Novelis.”
DRA’s investment will begin a multi-phased economic development project that will advance manufacturing capabilities across North America.
“The Delta Regional Authority’s investment in Kentucky is welcome news for Todd County,” Gov. Bevin said. “DRA’s commitment to support infrastructure improvements in this area of Kentucky will create a lasting impact for the community by cultivating long-term job creation and investment. As Kentucky continues to experience wide-spread economic growth, our partnership with DRA, and their continued strategic investment in critical infrastructure, ensures that resources are available to further Kentucky’s limitless economic potential.”
