Top Notch Security, Inc. is prepared to celebrate its 15th year in business on October 23rd with a celebration for employees, customers and other key Personnel at its Memphis, TN headquarters. Mr. Alfred Washington, Owner/CEO knew back in 1999 that starting a business would prove to be one of the best ideas he ever had. “I always had the entrepreneurial drive. I worked security during the summer months while attending college and knew I could start a great security firm one day,” said Washington who is being recognized this year as one of the Memphis Business Journal’s Top 40 Under 40 Business Professionals. Top Notch Security was self-funded in 1999 with $500 from the owner’s pocket.
Today, Top Notch Security is one of the fastest growing security companies in the United States providing professional security guards for Industrial, Commercial, Residential, Government facilities, and Executive Protection to clients globally.
This year has been a banner year for the company according to Washington. Top Notch Security has created 53 jobs in the region thus far this year, increasing the company’s workforce to nearly 250 employees. Top Notch Security was able to successfully acquire another security company while retaining all its employees and achieve further growth through national government and commercial contracts. In fact, the company is set to open a location in Louisiana thanks to a U.S. Department of Defense contract.
Top Notch Security earned SBA Tennessee 8(a) Graduate of the Year, was a finalist for the Memphis Business Journal small business of the year and recently was the recipient of the 2014 Tennessee Small Business Development Center (TSBDC) at Southwest Tennessee Community College Rising Star Award. TSBDC Memphis executive director Rory Thomas assisted Washington is strategically growing the business. Washington stated, “Words cannot express the awesome and outstanding assistance, I’ve received from TSBDC over the past year. I’m truly humbled by the professional and strategic guidance I received.”
Top Notch Security and its employees believe in giving back to the community. The firm lends support to many organizations, including the Special Olympics, National Civil Rights Museum and assists with scholarships for LeMoyne-Owen College, a historically black college in Memphis.
